| Game 82 - WAS 5, NYM 3 (61-21) Rich Harden handed a 3 hit shutout to Jimmy Gobble in the 9th, where the Mighty Mets were finally able to get on the board for three runs. Richie Wilhite had to put out the fire coming in for one strikeout and his 26th save. Harden improved to 13-0. Michael Durant and Grady Sizemore each homered while Miggy Cabrera was 2 for 4 with a couple RBI's.
Game 83 - NYM 3, WAS 2 (61-22) A back and forth game saw the Mets take the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth as Prince Fielder doubled home Anderson Hernandez. Joe Nathan pitched well but took the loss to drop to 13-4. Miguel Cabrera was 3 for 4 with an RBI to pace the Nationals' offense.
Game 84 - NYM 6, WAS 5 (61-23) The Mets erased a 5-3 deficit in the seventh inning as former Nat Ryan Zimmerman's go-ahead blast put the Mets up to stay. Shawn Hill gave up all six runs in defeat. Marcos Vechionacci was 3 for 4 and Michael Durant and Miguel Cabrera each slammed their 17th home runs.
Game 85 - NYM 10, WAS 9 (61-24) A 9-3 lead heading into the final two frames appeared to be very safe but the Mets proved no lead is safe against their potent offense. Carlos Hernandez gave up five runs in the 8th and for some reason Jonathan Broxton was called on to pitch the 9th in a one run game. He walked Alex Rodriguez before recording an out and giving way to Richie Wilhite. Wilhite gave up a couple hits, including Hanley Ramirez's walk-off single as he took the loss. Bill Hall had two hits and 3 RBI's to lead the Washington offense and PJ Phillips, Miguel Cabrera and Mike Napoli would also add two hits. Doctors after the game found a wrist stress fracture that will cause closer Richie Wilhite to miss almost a month.
Game 86 - WAS 10, HOU 3 (62-24) After falling behind by two quickly, Washington got the bats going and pounded out ten runs to beat the Astros. Mike Napoli led the way with two home runs. Grady Sizemore enjoyed a 3 for 4 day and Miguel Cabrera and Bill Hall each homered in the winning cause. Gaby Hernandez pitched five innings to earn the win.
Game 87 - WAS 9, HOU 4 (63-24) PJ Phillips got going again as he was a perfect 5 for 5 with his 26th home run. Brian McCann and Miggy Cabrera each homered and collected three RBI's to enjoy nice days of their own. Rich Harden's only trouble was in the seventh inning as he gave up four runs on two homers. He improves his record to a perfect 14-0. Blaine Neal, called up for the injured Richie Wilhite, pitched a perfect ninth.
Game 88 - WAS 5, HOU 1 (64-24) The Nationals made good of Joe Nathan's outstanding effort as they rallied for a run in the eighth to tie and four in the ninth to win the game. Nathan improved to 14-4. The Nationals only had four hits but made them count as Michael Durant homered (18 ) and Miggy Cabrera homered (20), both collecting a couple RBI's. | |
