| Just when the M's thought it couldn't get any worse the most distressing week of the year on the road in two national league stadiums. First they traveled to Cincinnati win the first game then giving the next two away. After a day off the team plays a horrible series in St. Louis, while the pitching staff did a commendable job never letting the cardinals score more than 5 runs the lumber was in a deep sleep only mustering 4 runs total in the series. Play-off hopes are dwindling fast and management is looking to shake things up a bit to try to get something going to at least salvage a winning season | |

| Game 58 - WAS 4, MIL 1 (43-15) Joe Nathan improved to 11-1 and gave the Nats their 10th win in a row. He gave up a run in eight innings before Richie Wilhite came in for his 17th save. PJ Phillips and Marcos Vechionacci each were 2 for 4 with Phillips going deep for the 15th time this year.
Game 59 - WAS 12, MIL 4 (44-15) The National offense overpowered Milwaukee as the top three hitters in the lineup collected three hits. Hitters five through seven each collected two hits and the Nationals hit four home runs in the game. Brian McCann was the hitting star, adding his 12th homer as part of a 3 for 4 day and 4 RBI's. Shawn Hill improved to 7-3.
Game 60 - WAS 5, MIL 4 (45-15) With two outs in the ninth of a tie ballgame, Grady Sizemore went deep for a walkoff home run. The homer was his 2nd of the day and 15th of the season. Miguel Cabrera also homered twice to bring his season total to 13. Juan Cruz got the win pitching three scoreless innings of relief.
Game 61 - WAS 5, NYY 4 (46-15) Same score as the day before and again, a walk-off home run wins it for the Nationals to bring the win streak to 13 games. PJ Phillips did it this time, but in a much different way than the day before. As the leadoff hitter, Phillips hit a ball to the left field gap. The speedy 24 year old took advantage of Johnny Damon's throwing arm and came all the way around for an inside the park home run. Gaby Hernandez did not give up a run in five innings but earned a no decision. Jimmy Gobble moved to 3-0 throwing one scoreless inning.
Game 62 - WAS 6, NYY 2 (47-15) PJ Phillips homered to lead off the National bottom of the 1st and make it homers in consecutive at bats. Washington never looked back as Rich Harden provided fine pitching giving up a couple runs in seven innings. Harden is 9-0 on the season. Michael Durant hit a three run homer to break the game open, his 11th of the season.
Game 63 - WAS 4, NYY 3 (48-15) Things didn't look so good through seven innings on Sunday. Veteran Mike Mussina was working on a one-hit shutout going into the 8th inning of play. Joe Nathan, who had surrendered 3 runs through eight looked ready to suffer his 2nd loss of the season. Things fell apart though for Mussina as Washington pushed across four in the 8th to take the shutout and the win from the Moose. With a run already scored and two men on, PJ Phillips crushed a 1-0 fastball from Mussina for the go ahead runs. This was Phillips 18th home run of the season as he homered once in each game of the Yankees' series. Washington, with the win, improved their win streak to 15 games. Richie Wilhite struck out the side in the 9th inning for his 19th save. | |
