| Game 76 - WAS 2, PHI 0 (55-21) PJ Phillips singled and Marcos Vechionacci homered to begin the game off Cole Hamels for the only scoring we would see. Both Vechionacci and Phillips would collect two hits on the day. Two hits is all starter Gaby Hernandez would allow in his best start of the year. He moved to 5-4 and Richie Wilhite pitched a perfect 9th to earn his 22nd save.
Game 77 - WAS 5, PHI 1 (56-21) Through the first three months of the season, Rich Harden still does not have a loss. Harden is 12-0 after giving up only one run on five hits. Richie Wilhite recorded an out for the save. Sean Casey, catching today to give Brian McCann a day off was 3 for 3 with two RBI's. PJ Phillips added his 24th homer of the season.
Game 78 - WAS 11, PHI 1 (57-21) Joe Nathan made easy work of the Phillies' lineup allowing three hits and one run over eight innings. Nathan struck out 11 batters and his record now stands at 13-3. PJ Phillips had five hits in five at-bats with three doubles. Jimmy Rollins hit two solo home runs and Brian McCann was 3 for 4 with three RBI's to pace the offense.
Game 79 - WAS 3, ATL 1 (58-21) The Nationals only managed one hit in the game versus the Braves but still came away with a win. In a weird 7th inning, four National hitters were walked and one was hit by a pitch. Two runs were forced in and the other scored on a ground ball out by Bill Hall. Shawn Hill only allowed one run in six innings but earned the no decision. Juan Cruz threw one scoreless inning to earn the win and improve to 4-0. Richie Wilhite earned his 24th save of the season.
Game 80 - WAS 5, ATL 4 (59-21) Down 4-0 after five innings, the Nationals scored five straight unanswered runs to earn the come-from-behind win. Colten Willems benefitted from the comeback, earning the win despite giving up four runs in seven innings. PJ Phillips slammed his NL leading 25th home run of the season and Michael Durant hit his 14th home run as he still sits below the Mendoza Line at .194. Richie Wilhite picked up his 25th save, lowering his ERA to 1.90.
Game 81 - WAS 8, ATL 2 (60-21) Ricardo Rodriguez earned the spot start and was impressive, giving up two runs, only one earned in 7 1/3 innings pitched. Michael Durant brought his batting average up to .203 with a 3 for 4 day, including his 15th home run. He had 4 RBI's. Mike Napoli and Bill Hall each homered and collected 2 RBI's to pace the rest of the Washington offense. | |
