| Game 70 - WAS 8, PHI 4 (52-18 ) A pitcher's duel exploded in the latter innings as a 1-0 National lead became 8-0 before Philadelphia scored four runs in the 8th to make it respectable. Colten Willems struck out 12 as he lost his shutout bid tiring and giving up four in the 8th. Richie Willhite retired one batter for his 21st save. Miguel Cabrera and Brian McCann each hit their 15th home runs of the season.
Game 71 - WAS 9, PHI 4 (53-18 ) The Nats erased a 5-3 deficit, tying it in the 7th before putting up a five-spot in the 8th to seal the game. PJ Phillips continued his MVP bid as he was 4 for 5 with his 22nd home run and 3 RBI's. Miguel Cabrera added two hits and his 16th home run of the season. Juan Cruz pitched a scoreless inning to move to 3-0.
Game 72 - WAS 9, PHI 1 (54-18 ) Rich Harden moved to 11 wins without any losses as he limited the Philly offense to one run in eight innings. Harden struck out 10 batters. Grady Sizemore, Brian McCann and Bill Hall each hit homers for Washington.
Game 73 - SEA 3, WAS 0 (54-19) Joe Nathan threw a complete game allowing just three runs but Matt Cain was better for Seattle. The Nationals were only able to scratch two hits off Cain before he was lifted after seven innings. Marcos Vechionacci collected two of Washington's three hits in the game.
Game 74 - SEA 4, WAS 1 (54-20) Again, a Washington pitcher threw a complete game but the offense was not able to provide enough runs to get him the win. Shawn Hill gave up four runs in eight innings to fall to 9-4. The loss snapped a streak of 8 consecutive starts with a win for Hill. PJ Phillips' 23rd home run in the 6th inning was the only scoring Washington could muster against John Rheinecker.
Game 75 - SEA 7, WAS 2 (54-21) Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the 3rd, Washington was unable to avoid their first series' sweep this season. Colten Willems dropped to 7-3 as he allowed 7 runs, 5 earned in a complete game loss. Brian McCann was the only Nat hitter to collect two hits and Grady Sizemore homered for the 18th time this year.
