| Game 33 - WAS 16, CHC 4 (21-12) The score is a little bit deceiving as this was a 5-3 ballgame heading into the 8th inning. Washington scored 7 in the 8th inning to break it wide open. PJ Phillips was 4 for 6 with 4 RBI's, slamming his 8th and 9th home run of the season. Grady Sizemore hit his 10th home run and Brian McCann went 4 for 5 to pace the rest of the offense. Shawn Hill earned the win giving up two runs in five innings of work.
Game 34 - CHC 5, WAS 2 (21-13) John Lackey was brilliant, holding the Nationals to 2 hits and no runs in seven innings. PJ Phillips hit his tenth homer for the only two National runs in the 9th inning. Grady Sizemore collected three hits. Jonathan Broxton started and took the loss giving up three runs in six innings.
Game 35 - WAS 7, CHC 3 (22-13) In almost a disappointing start, Joe Nathan gave up three runs in 8 innings all coming on a Charlie Fermaint home run. After throwing a perfect game followed by a no-hitter, Nathan's quest for immortality did not last past the first hitter as Fermaint singled on a 2-0 fastball. Nathan would earn the win improving to 7-0 in 7 starts. Offensively, the Nationals collected 13 hits, all singles, three of them by PJ Phillips and four by Grady Sizemore.
Game 36 - WAS 4, STL 2 (23-13) Colton Willems outpitched Chris Carpenter to earn his 4th win of the season, only allowing one earned run in eight innings. Richie Wilhite threw the 9th for his 8th save of the year. Marcos Vechionacci was the only National to collect multiple hits going 2 for 4.
Game 37 - WAS 3, STL 1 (24-13) Rich Harden stayed perfect on the year improving to 6-0. He would only allow one run in eight innings, collecting eight strikeouts. Richie Wilhite struck out the side in the 9th for his 9th save of the year. Miguel Cabrera was 2 for 3 with a walk to lead the Washington offense.
Game 38 - WAS 3, STL 1 (25-13) Joe Nathan's ERA continues to go up but he was yet again brilliant in this outing. Nathan held the Cards to one run on three hits over eight innings. He would fan 10 Cardinal hitters. Richie Wilhite completed the sweep of the series with his third consecutive save, a perfect inning. Grady Sizemore belted his 11th home run and PJ Phillips and Bill Hall each had two hits apiece. Joe Nathan is now 8-0 in 8 starts with a 0.82 ERA. | |

| Week Six was not kind to the M's after dropping 2 out of 3 to thr Blue jays at home they traveled to Baltimore to be swept. The only real offensive bright spot was the lone win against Toronto where Jose Lopez had a near perfect game at the plate going 5 for 5 with a 3-run homerun and walking in his sixth plate appearance. Matt Cain earned the lone W of the week working 6 innings giving up 4 hits walking 5 striking out 8 while only giving up 2 runs. Chris Begg Earned the save by pitching 3 shutout innings. | |
