Atlanta Hires New GM: Makes bold promises
The Atlanta Braves do the improbable and replace their GM mid-way into June. When the team spokesman was asked as to why the sudden change was made, he was quoted as saying that "the previous GM had done a great job for the organization, but we felt that a big change in the front office was just what this Brave team needed to continue in our quest for another NL East title."
Not much is known about the new GM, James Coluccio, except that he is in his early 20's, and is certainly motivated about his new position as Braves GM. "I promise to do everything in my power to continue to keep this Atlanta Braves team a contender, and to get this team into the post-season." When asked if he planned on making any big moves, his answer was that he would "...do anything that I think would improve our chances of winning more ballgames, and ultimately bringing a championship back to Atlanta."
When Chipper Jones was asked for his thoughts on the new GM, he said "It's great to have a guy that is willing to pull out all the stops to improve the team. It's really going to have the guys and myself playing alot harder." When asked if he was afraid that he himself would be traded, Chipper responded by saying, "As long as I am contributing, I don't see any reason why I would be traded anywhere. I am dedicated to the Brave organization, and they have been dedicated to me. I don't forsee any reason why that would change.
If this GM is as dedicated to the Braves as Chipper Jones is, the Mets will certainly have to beware of this Atlanta Brave team.
