With series against the struggling White Sox and .500 level Phillies we were looking for a big week, and the O's came through with 2 sweeps.
In the White Sox series we outscored them 27-11 over 3 games, winning 9-2, 8-5, and 10-4. Zach Duke pitched a solid 7 innings, giving up just 2 runs. Ryan Howard powered the offense with 3 hits, 4 runs, a home run, and 2 rbi. Luke Scott Finally hit a Home Run as well. In game two Scott continued to heat up, hitting his 2nd home run and raising his average to .274 with 3 hits. Renteria chipped in 3 hits as well. In this game the bullpen covered for Travis Chick, who only lasted 3 innings. The bullpen went the rest of the way giving up only 1 run. In game 3 Lester allowed 1 run in 6 innings before the bullpen struggled slightly giving up 3 more runs. The offense had things under control though, with 15 hits, 3 HR, and 6 doubles. Loney and Hermida both had 3 hits and 2 doubles.
The Phillies series was more of the same, as we outscored them 19-8. In game one we came from 4 down and scored 5 in the 7th for the win. Aardsma and Britton pitched a perfect 8th and 9th to close things out, and Hermida led the way offensively with a home run and 3 RBI. Game 2 was a 3 hitter by Livan, who continues to be quite impressive. Livan walked none and struck out 6, and Trot Nixon led the offense with a double and home run which led to 4 RBI. In the final game of the week Howard and Johnson led teh way with 3 RBI each, and the bullpen pitched a scoreless 3 innings to close things out on a great week.
Great week for the O's as we put a few games between us and the Yanks. We're just over a 1/4 of the way through the season, and we're proving we belong with the top teams of the league.
