Richie Gardner pitched 8 innings of 2 hit, shut-out ball to lead the Washington Nationals to a 1-0 victory over the New York Mets on Monday. Despite having little success this season Washington is 4-3 this year against the Mets who should be competing for a playoff spot. Gardner carried a no-hitter into the sixth when Hanley Ramirez tripled to break up the bid. Ex-National Ryan Zimmerman added the other hit in the 7th off Gardner, who finished the game with an eye-opening 13 strikeouts. With not much to look forward to, individual performances like this give the National fans something to celebrate.
