Phoenix, Arizona- Despite a rising Marlins team, key injuries to Sean Green, Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez, and Johan Santana so far this season, coming out of one of their toughest stretches of the season, the Mets are still tight in the race, only back 3 in the NL East chase and even up 1 in the chase for the Wild Card. With a horrid offense and a closer in a horrific off-season, Mets GM tunit has decided to make a move and bring in the big guns at the trading deadline.
Trading young phenoms Ruben Gotay and Mike Pelfrey, the digruntled closer Billy Wagner, and a slew of prospects from the Met's fat farm, GM tunit was able to make a deal with the Baltimore Orioles, getting big bat and perenial All-Star Vladimir Guererro and Superstar closer J.J. Putz, plus a cool $10 million.
"You know, it was really hard to let go of Ruben and Mike. We knew they would both become premiere players in the league, maybe even perenial All-Stars, but we felt we had the depth in our farm to replace those guys. Overall, we feel its better for the team this year to make a strong push," tunit told the media during a media press conference yesterday night, "we're hoping Vlad can really spark our team and J.J. will pump up our already strong bullpen. Hopefully we get Johan back soon then we can make a strong push for a repeat."
An introductory press conference will be held before the Met's next game against the Arizona Daimondbacks in the rubber game of a critical series between the 2 Wild Card leaders, with the Mets leading the 'backs only by 1 game.
