As we saw last season, a lot of free agents were signed under their values. How about we do something that will make it more realistic. How about we start bidding at what the players are looking for salary wise. So say player A is looking for 5 yrs/10 million a year, then your offer has to be something similar to it. By similar, I mean the player has to accept the offer in the game. I mean four years/10.5 million would probably be similar for player A, but 6 years/5.5 million probably wouldn't.

Fair?

The only problem I see with this is a lot of people will go into debt with the much higher contracts and crappy players ask for way too much money.

Agree with admin. The whole concept of the FA market is the price is set by the market which is why the bidding system works so well. If not I honestly could see a lot of pretty good players that end up unsigned because they want unrealistic contracts because of the salary part of the AI.

Why don't we just bump the player salary demands down? Maybe -30%? And then just go by what the game says.

I think the system is fine how it is. It encourages people to stay active during the free agent period.

In the current system, and looks like there won't be any change to it(atleast for now), you can sign an Albert Pujols for 300k as long as you don't get outbid...

So therefore that's what the market at the time saw as his worth. It seemed to me most of the marquee guys got marquee money last time (Gagne, Utley) and even some non marquee guys (Rios) got big money so I don't see the problem

There is no problem. This shouldn't be an issue. Haha.

Bidding will reach the "reasonable" amount anyway... Albert Pujols won't be signed for 300k unless every GM but one dies or he's 50 years old...
