Many felt that the Phillies didn't have a shot going into this season. After losing many key players from last season. Gone were Mike Lieberthal, Chae Utley, Aaron Rowand, Brett myers and Ryan Madson. However after a few moves, spending some money and some key players stepping up the Phillies are in contention 70 games into the season. Thier record currently stands at 40 and 30 and are 4 games behind the Mets in the east and 2.5 games behind the Dodgers for the Wild Card.
The Phils have been led this season by superstar first baseman Ryan Howard who is putting up MVp caliber number and is making a push for the Triple Crown. He leads the league in Home Runs with 31 6 ahead of Adam Dunn, Leads the league in RBI's with 72, 6 ahead of Prince Fielder and also currently leaads in Batting Average with an impressive 362, a wehole 15 points ahead of Carl Crawford.
The Phils also went out and signed some talent that has been stepping it up for them also including Craig Biggio, Greg Maddux Damian Miller and John Wasdin. All have been great contributers for the team this year.
Will the Phillies make a run for the pennent this year? only time will tell but this reporter thinks they have a good chance especially if rumors are true of SP Brett Myers being traded back to the Phillies sometime in the near future.
