week 3 saw the D-rays go 5-2 including a 2 game split with division rivals baltimore and a sweep of the angles. the pitching was pretty good the whole week ending with back to back shutouts on sat and sunday. On sunday, the devil ray bats came to play scoring 16 runs on homeruns from glaus (264/354/625) soriano (282/305/500) and huff (302/423/535). tampa is 13-6 and a half game behind baltimore. but a look at the pythagorean records tells us that tampa should be 15-4 and baltimore should be 14-6. i think that speaks volumes.

The Mets are quite satisfied with their pitching success, but quite annoyed that the "invincible lineup" continues it's slump that started in last year's postseason.

4-3 week for the Orioles. Was hoping for better with 5 games at home versus division rivals Tampa Bay and New York, but ended up losing 3 of those.

Week started well with a two game sweep of the Red Sox, highlighted by Zach Duke's 8 innings of shutout baseball in game 1, and Ruben Gotays 5 RBI night in the same game. Gotay was a double away from hitting for the cycle in this game.

2 game series against TB started well as we took the first game with Lester picking up his 3rd victory. The 2nd game, a pitcher's matchup between Bonderman and Williams, saw each out of the game before the end of the 6th inning. Injury sub George Kottaras let the way for TB with 4 RBIs.

The first game of the Yankees sereies was tied 2 - 2 until the 12th, when super prospect Eric Hurley was brought in and roughed up for 6 runs, with 3 of them being unearned. 2nd game was a Yankees 13-3 blow out, which I'd rather not talk about, but we got back at them in the final game by winning 10-1. Travis Chick had a nice 8 innings of work, giving up 1 run and 4 hits, and for the 2nd time this week Ruben Gotay had 3 hits, a HR, and 5 RBIs. Gotay is having a great season so far, with a .407 batting average, 21 RBIs, and 5 homers.

Another Shaky Week

April 25, 2010

PITTSBURGH, PA. (AP) - After splitting both two game series against the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs, it looked like the Pirates were starting to gain some momentum. Unfortunately, things drastically went back down-hill as they were swept in the three game match by the New York Mets.

"They simply overmatched us," said Jack Taschner, who lasted only 4.2 innings while giving up 4 earned runs against the Mets. "They out pitched us, and they out hit us...what can you do?"

Despite the slow start for the Pirates, the front office is not too worried. They realize that the season is still very new and that they have an entire season to heat things up.

"You can't come in here and expect to win this thing right away," Pirates G.M. Andrew Lizon said. "This isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. So I'm fine with starting out slow, hopefully we can turn it up a notch towards the middle of the season and get to where we're supposed to be."

Next up for the Pirates, they head out to Cincinnati to battle it out against the Reds in a three game series, then it's to Houston to wrap up the team's nine game road trip.

I'm very pleased with my start. Especially taking both games from STL. I don't think my lineup will continue to hit as well as they are.
