CINCINNATI - In quiet fashion in front of a few select news agents, it was announced today that the Cincinnati Reds franchise was officially in the black. Cincinnati's GM stood smiling politely as their financial director Jonathon Smith broke the news.
"We finally are where we've been striving to be," Smith stated. "It took us nearly two seasons to do. It involved some complicated trades and clever player acquisitions while still keeping ticket and concession costs within reasonable levels."
Smith went on to state that while the franchise doesn't hold ill will against the previous ownership group, it wanted to make a statement of fiscal responsibility. "We recognize that there's a fine balance for a small market team like the Reds to achieve," said Smith. "While the former ownership made great strides in acquiring talent, they did so irresponsibly. Financial responsibility and fielding a good product is always possible"
"Now that we've demonstrated that fiscal responsibility," said Cincinnati's GM, "it's time for the rebuilding of the Big Red Machine to begin. I'm truly excited about the future." | |
