You're just waking up on a Sunday morning. You go outside, and get the newspaper, as you do daily. Go to the sports as usual. Front cover:
D'backs leave Rangers longing in longstar state
You check the standings. As predicted, the Arizona team is in first in the west. Not the best team in the league, but noone expected that of them. So what could be wrong?
Well looking a bit deeper than that, there is plenty. The so-called aces are getting clubbered. Tim Wakefield, yes that one, is their best starter. Where have Webb, and Claussen been? We don't know either. Attendance is down. There are a ton of players rumored to be on the block, and that is causing for some tension in the club house. Even though they are in first place in the west, they are only playing .500, and are only 1.5 games up on the Rockies. Yes, those Rockies(we couldn't believe it either). And worst of all, the team is already down, and it is only late May. The injury bug has apprantely found a new home, and it is in Arizona. The team has been killed with injuries, most notably star hitter Alfonso Soriano(who ironically was injuried the exact day he came back from a previous injury). Said of general manager, Defense, "this team is being held together with glue, tape, and gum". It will be interesting watching to see if they can make it.
